I'm back home after a week of feasting and enjoyment with family. Staying in a large rented house together for the week, the dozen of us had ample time to cook together, eat together, drink tea together, find our way around a strange city together (GPS to the rescue!), go to Churchill Downs to see the horse races one afternoon (even bet on an Australian horse, who won!!) and watch the early days of the Tour de France together. It was a wonderful week, not without its stresses and strains, but overall so much fun.
Speaking of France, my sister brought a lovely liqueur back from France, Crème de Cassis, which we used in aperitifs before one special feast. When served in white wine, the French call it Kir, after the mayor of Dijon apparently. We served it in champagne, and then it becomes Kir Royal. My generous sister sent the rest of the bottle home with me, where I have enjoyed its pleasures on top of ice cream. Come on over!
